Brief notes from the club meeting:
The Booster Club is recognizing the scholar student-athletes from the 2006-2007 season during the halftime festivities of the Carlisle football game on September 28.
2. The Bylaws state the club will conduct a yearly audit of its finances. Members agreed to alternate yearly with internal and external audits.
3. The concession stand is working efficiently this year, thanks in part to the subteam’s decision-making , Ted & Deloris Rarig and Doreen & Pat Harrington. The end result will be more monies available for the athletic programs.
4. When a team is scheduled to work the concession stand, the coach is asked to identify 4-5 parents and 4-5 athletes to work. There are teams that have provided more than enough parents, but there are still teams having difficulty providing enough volunteers. It was recommended that coaches tap a parent before the season begins to take on this task so there are enough volunteers to help during the events.
5. Hornet Day was a big success from many viewpoints: recognizing student-athletes, giving back to the young athletes, supporting team fundraisers and sparking school spirit. The ‘Lessons Learned’ have been captured and shared with the members. These learnings will be included used to build on next year’s event.
6. The Red Onion and Wings & Rings are two local companies that sponsor athletic teams. If other companies are interesting in supporting a team, they should contact the athletic office or Booster club officer.
7. The athletic department has contracted to host the DI Boys soccer tournament in October and the Middletown Spring Blast soccer tournament in March. The concession stand will be open to raise more funds for the club. There will be approximately 40-50 teams in town for the tournament, so local businesses will benefit as well.
8. The club will pay for the flowers for Senior Night.
9. In the coming months, club members will develop a 5 Year Plan to create a vision and roadmap for the club. Suggestions / comments are welcome from all members.
10. Thanks to the following volunteers for their time and energy in supporting the club :
- Bob Phelps and Scott Triick for managing the Booster Parking lot on Friday nights
- Dave Farrish, Scott Burnside, Rocky Sebastion and Eddie Neace for working the 50 /50 fundraiser
- Linda Bellaw, Susan Farrish and Mary Routson-Griffin for selling programs

- Journal quote of Coach Krause: “That was a very good football game. You can’t turn the ball over against good football teams, and we almost paid for it. I give my hat off to Madison coach Joel Lauer and what he’s done with that program. He’s done a really nice job.”
- Dayton Daily News quote: Titled 'Saturday's high school girls soccer highlights': "Monroe girls stay perfect in soccer. Junior Maggie Hinkle scored all three goals in Monroe's 3-0 girls soccer win over Edgewood on Saturday. Monroe is 10-0 and Hinkle has a team-leading 12 goals."
- ‘Take Three’ column by Journal Skip Weaver: Q: Who are some of the top area players through the first four games? A: “Monroe senior quarterback Tyler Osterman and Middletown sophomore quarterback Caleb Watkins have been neck and neck in statistics so far. Osterman has a slight lead in passing yards, however, but for a Division I starter at age 16, Watkins ahs played pretty well in the face of some stiff competitions. Other players include Madison’s Aaron Wessleman, Franklin’s Mick Braden, Middletown’s Phillip Barnett and Monroe’s Mike Miller.
- Journal’s Team of the Week - Monroe Hornets: ‘Practically knocked out of the playoff picture after a key home loss two weeks ago to Valley View, Monroe rebounded and drilled Bellbrook last week. Monroe still has faint playoff hopes if it can continue to win. Handling Bellbrook shows the Hornets should remain in the hunt all season long.’
- Monroe Alum Michael Majors plays for Tiffin on special teams and as a backup outside linebacker.
