| Thursday, May 9, 2002 Representative Gary Cates visited Monroe Elementary and presented them with an Ohio state flag. This was done in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Ohio state flag. Rep. Cates gave a short speech explaining the history of the Ohio state flag. Ryan Leahy and Nicole Tolson represented the elementary school and received a commendation from Rep. Cates and the flag on behalf of Monroe Elementary School. Fourth graders, under the direction of Sue Knicely, entertained the audience and Representative Cates with the songs "Fifty, Nifty United States", "Beautiful Ohio" and "America the Beautiful". The Veterans of Foreign Wars were introduced by Rep. Cates and received a standing ovation from the audience. Click here to view pictures. |
