On June 24, 2008 council adopted Emergency Resolution 57-2008, that would lead to a possible grant from the US Department of Homeland Security.
From City Manager Bill Brock: The Police Department is seeking a grant from Homeland Security for a Mini Thermal Monocular V2 valued at approximately $17,000. The Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program has been utilized successfully in the past by the Fire Department. The program supplies the equipment directly to the City, so no funds or bidding is required. For more information on the equipment sought go to Mini Therman Monocular V2 website.
On May 30, 2008, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) opened the application period for approximately $16 million in equipment and training awards through its 2008 Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP).
Since its inception in fiscal year (FY) 2005, more than $104 million in equipment and training has been awarded through CEDAP to law enforcement agencies, fire departments and other emergency responders.
