I-75, stretches from Canada through Florida, and is the most heavily traveled truck route in North America. An estimated $24.5 billion in commodities annually travel on I-75. With increased truck and vehicle traffic, we are seeing an increase in delays, accidents and fatalities. The safety barrier (to be located partly in Monroe) protecting northbound and southbound lanes from oncoming traffic is once again delayed. The supplier is not able to provide enough material to keep this project on schedule. So another delay in making I-75 safe, will no doubt, result in additional accidents and fatalities. The Safety Barrier is not the only thing being considered. OKI oversees transportation, here are some other suggestions to improve safety and reduce traffic: • Relocating all exit ramps to the right. • Creating new exits while closing others. • Expanding the highway to four lanes. • Create a lane for vehicles with two or more passengers.
