At its April 28 meeting, the Monroe City Council approved an emergency resolution to allow City Manager William Brock to enter into an agreement with CDS Associates, Inc.  The architecture firm will be engineering a left turn realignment at the intersection at Ohio 63 and Main Street which will offset two left lanes from the mainline along with installing a new traffic signal at Britton Lane and Ohio 63. 

Funding for the project will come from $558,000 the city of Monroe received in federal stimulus dollars, along with a safety grant from the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments.   The realignment will improve visibility for drivers, making the intersection safer and possibly preventing some of the numerous accidents that take place there each year. 

Brock tells the Middletown Journal, “the engineering will proceed now and will go through the Ohio Department of Transportation process of review, which takes some time.”  Work on the project is set to begin next spring and last about two months.
