The Monroe Garden Club met September 15, 2009, in the James Monroe Community Room with 15 members present.
Outgoing President, Peggy Hesson, installed Anna Hale as President.
Recently, a Certificate of Appreciation was presented to the Monroe Garden Club by the City of Monroe and the Monroe Veteran’s Memorial Committee. The award was in honor of the Club’s contribution to the success of the Dedication Ceremony that was held on May 22, 2009. Club members, Peggy Hesson and Anna Hale accepted the award on the club’s behalf and presented it to the Club.
Becky Howard was presented with an award for “Outstanding Garden Design” by “Awards” Chairman, Ellen Kinsey.
Jessie Hull asked members to bring photos to the next meeting for preparation of small “Hometown Scrapbooks” to be sent to Monroe Active Duty Personnel.
The evening’s program was a book review presented by Jessie Hull. “Beautiful Borders” authored by Barbara Segall is a step-by-step book on how to plan, plant and maintain the “perfect” border “using the principles of site, color, form and inspiration.”
Phyllis Sells and Karen Branum were hostesses. Phyllis was awarded the blue ribbon award for her fall arrangement.
