New president Jessie Hull presided over the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Monroe Garden Club. This event was held Tuesday, October 19th at the Monroe Historical Society Building on Elm Street. Guests were Geri Meyers, Jane Majors, Doris Depugh, Gail Blevins and Pat Little. Judy Shillinglaw was welcomed into the club as an active member. Vice President Beth Heinkel distributed the new yearbooks and discussed the monthly programs. The Secretary’s report was read and approved. The Treasurer’s Report was tabled until the next meeting. Peggy Abernathy and Judy Shillinglaw will attend the OAGC Fall Regional Meet on Oct 22nd.
The program for the evening was “Floral Interpretation of Historic Quilts” Club members exhibiting quilts and arrangements were Anna Hale – Log Cabin, Beth Heinkel-Sunbonnet, Pauline Belcher – Dresden Plate, Erin Chesar – Caroline’s Quilt, Judy Shillinglaw – Charm and Log Cabin, Nancy Walck – Garden Party and Ellen Kinsey –Silk Tie Mosaic. The Historical Society also displayed quilts throughout the exhibition rooms. Hostesses for the evening were Erin Chesar, Jessie Hull and Beth Heinkel.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 16, 2010 and will be a Field Trip to Delhi Flower and Garden. Members will meet at the Monroe City Building at 6:15 p.m.
