In the video above the Superintendent of Monroe Local Schools, Dr. Elizabeth Lolli, pleads for accelerated TIF payment from the city. Annually TIF funds from the city amount to over $1 Million Dollars. The schools need the money by June, before the state auditor requires the school financial reports.

Despite the $2.2 Million in cuts (mostly from 19 teachers and school employees being cut), without new money the Monroe school district will be unable to submit a financial plan that would satisfy the Ohio Department of Education. There isn't enough projected cash flow to sustain the district with its projected $4.5 Million deficit.

The school district is currently in Fiscal Watch. This payment may help the schools avoid Fiscal Emergency and a state takeover of the school district.

I asked School Board President Brett Guido if the payment would keep MLS out of Fiscal Emergency, he said it is not guaranteed that this will cause Monroe Schools to avoid a state takeover.
