|
Today at 6:00 pm will
be the final meeting of the Middletown/Monroe School
District. Meeting at the administrative offices, an
agreement of the division of assets is hoped to be reached, and approval of a cash transfer of 75% of the
settlement is expected. The meeting with the Ohio Department

Monroe Has a New Postmaster
Barbara Gardner is now the new Postmaster for Monroe. Gardner says that this was a lifetime goal for her and she is really looking forward to the job. She has worked at several Ohio post offices.
The first
route she had was in Coshocton. After she had worked the route for eight years she convinced her
brother to become a carrier also. He is the postmaster in West Lafayette, Ohio.
She worked with her brother for a year and then took a job at the bulk mail center in Sharonville.
One goal of Gardner's is to maintain the good morale and quality of work in the post office. Monroe's post office will be switching to automation soon so that service goals can be met. She wants to make the transition as smooth as possible. No one will lose jobs over the transition, however, the change will help block new jobs in the future. Residents can take place in the National Association of Letter Carriers food drive May 13
by leaving non-perishable items next to their mailboxes for pickup by mail carriers.

Miller's
Creek Sewer Project
June 7, 2000 According to Tony Parrott, director of BCDES
(Butler County Department of Environmental Services), the Miller's
Creek sewer project will "open up services" to the
proposed Monroe Mall area along the I-75 corridor. This, along with
other local sewer projects, will reduce costs and improve services
to proposed business and residential areas in Monroe. The
Miller's Creek project is projected to be completed sometime in
October or early November.
Monroe Mall Creek Rerouting Withdrawn
Taubman Company
withdrew its application on April 4 to reroute a creek where
the proposed 200 store mall would be. The application,
asking to fill 3700 feet of Miller's Creek, was required
because of the impact the development would have on a small
wetland.
There is an option for Taubman to
purchase some land near Interstate 75
and Ohio 63 where they want to construct
a 200 store retail mall. The
project has received opposition from
communities and in early April Warren
County commissioners said they would no
longer support the mall project.
Monroe city officials still support the
mall.

Area
Code may change
Butler and Warren Counties may lose their 513 area
code within a year. Everyone is encouraged to
attend the upcoming public forums to express their
protest to the change. The forums may be the
county's businesses and communities only opportunity to
have their opinions heard.
Unless something is done soon the area will run out
of numbers by next year. The increase in demand
for additional numbers is largely do to the increase in
mobile phones, computers and fax machine usage.
Two options are currently being looked at, one would
split the area and assign a new area code similar to the
937 change of just a few years ago or have all
new numbers issued given a different area code keeping
the 513. This, however, would require 10 digit dialing for
all local calls. |
Men

arrested at the Hampton Inn. They were charged with
disorderly conduct, with a charge of stolen property pending

his new store. Flynt arrived in a black car, and commented

The groundbreaking involved golden shovels and was everything but
ceremonious. It didn't last long and not many people were
