Monroe Students Dress Trees for the Holidays - December 13, 2000
Monroe Elementary sixth graders decorated Christmas trees near the newly improved entrance to Monroe at the corner of Route 63 and Main Street. The ornaments were made by elementary students grades first through sixth.
 

Some city workers were on hand with a manlift to help hang decorations on the higher branches.

Homecoming Pep Rally at Monroe - October 20, 2000
October 20, 2000 Monroe High School Football Field- The stands were packed at Lemon-Monroe stadium Friday afternoon but not for a football game. The entire student body of Monroe Local Schools K-12 participated in a homecoming pep rally.  All fall sports teams were recognized-golf, soccer, cross country, football, cheerleaders cheered, the band played and the homecoming candidates were introduced. A spirit bear was awarded to Monroe Elementary School principal Patti Shull for uniting the elementary school student body with the junior/high school student body. The students enjoyed a very spirited rally.

Monroe Pride was evident again on Saturday morning as probably the largest parade ever to be seen in Monroe marched from Mount Pleasant to the Monroe Community Park. Grand Marshals of the parade were the new school board for Monroe Local Schools. Bands, horses, sports teams, politicians, antique cars, fire trucks, law enforcement, churches and even Cinderella's horse and carriage joined the festivities as part of Monroe's Fifth Annual City Fest.

Construction Increases to finish Modular Classrooms - August 22, 2000

Construction has picked up considerably to get the modular classrooms done. Construction crews  are working hard to ensure this project is ready to go by the time classes begin. The decks on the front are almost complete and all five trailers are on site. The fifth and sixth grade classes as well as art, music and library will have their classrooms in modular units  this year. Anyone wishing to help move classroom supplies into the modulars please contact Patti Shull for details

July 26, 2000 - New construction will begin on the modular units next week. The first unit should be completed by July 27. Fifth 
and sixth grade classes will be held in the modular units as well 
as library and art. The desks and chairs have arrived from 
Amanda and are being stored in the gym until the new 
classrooms are ready. The classrooms inside the school and the exterior of the school building are being painted and are nearly done!

Myers has been  working with the new replacement for his retired lab.  His new pattern is a black German Shepard named Alec

Alec was imported from Germany. According to officer Myers, "He will be trained in drug detection as well as patrol (article search, building search, criminal apprehension and so on). Alec will be ready for service on May 12, 2000

April 10, 2000 - Late in the afternoon an accident occurred at the intersection of Rt. 63 and Main Street in Monroe. The driver of the Toyota Camry was flown by helicopter to the hospital. The driver of  the truck was cited for failure to stop at a red light.
